Intimate wedding at Newstead Abbey
Austin and Yan booked me for their intimate wedding nuptials at Newstead Abbey (where we also shot their engagement shoot) in January last year and it was such a pleasure to be a part of their special day. It was my smallest wedding to date, with just eight guests in attendance. These were Austin’s parents, grandparents, sister and partner. I love how close the family were and how special the ceremony felt with just their closest watching. After the ceremony, I stayed for some family photos on the lawn and some portraits around Newstead Abbey. These two also opted for a short video, which you can view at the bottom of the post.
Yan and Austin’s favourite five
I asked Yan and Austin to pick their favourite five images from their wedding gallery. It is always so interesting to see which photos my couples favour as they are often different to my own favourites as they obviously hold different meanings to the couple. Their selection is lovely, really showing the intimacy of the day. That portrait of Yan, with her hair over her face. I think she looks super cool.

What was the best decision you made about your wedding day? (advice to future couples)
To keep it small and intimate.
Is there anything you would do differently? (advice to future couples)
We’d not change anything but just make sure to enjoy the moment because it goes so quick.
My Favourite 36
Here are a selection of my own favourites. Some of my favourite moments to capture were Austin’s family getting a little tearful during the ceremony. This really showed how intimate and lovely and heartfelt the wedding was. I really enjoyed the light coming through the big window in the ceremony room. It was hitting Austin and Yan perfectly for some lovely shots during their ceremony.
It was also great to explore some of the spots in Newstead Abbey for some couple photos. I don’t tend to do a lot of posing with my couples, instead preferring to see what happens naturally. I actually really love the slight awkwardness that Yan and Austin brought to their portraits. Sometimes I think it can be really cool just to work off this and I love the shot of them in the room with the antlers. They were super cool and I really liked their vibes.
What an absolute honour to be a part of their small wedding celebration. After photos, they all went off for a nice meal and I left them to it. More weddings like this please. It was lovely. All the best in your future together Yan and Austin. You rock!
