ROCK THE FROCK {Beth and the Butterflies}

Beth and I have been planning this Rock the Frock project for quite a while. Beth is a fellow photographer in Nottingham and was keen to do a Rock the Frock shoot with a difference. When she sent me a picture of her dress, I immediately wanted to give the shoot a gothic feel in a crumbling run down derelict location. It was Beth’s pale skin and the beautiful fragile dress that made want to show a real contrast in the location of this shoot. I also had the idea of placing butterflies around the rubble and on Beth’s skin, to really show up the juxtaposition of the fragile and beautiful amidst the ugly and neglected, and to give the shoot a feeling of vulnerability and isolation. However to describe the disused old RAF buildings in Syerston as ugly would be misleading. Although there are boarded up and broken windows, graffitti everywhere and rubbish dumped in the grounds, there is a haunting beauty about the place. Especially in the caved in roof, that made for a beautiful backdrop to the shoot. It looks like it might collapse at any minute, but is suspended in this strange half broken state, as if it is not yet ready to fall.

Clare and Mike {Engagement Shoot in Leicestershire}

On Sunday I met Clare and Mike in Leicester and we drove to a special place belonging to Mike’s family. It was a magical peaceful spot of woodland surrounding a lake, near a village called Ashby Magna. The whole area was luscious and green from all the rain, and we had a lovely sunny afternoon taking pictures. Clare and Mike are clearly very much in love, and it was brilliant being able to capture this on my camera. They are a very sweet couple and I’m really looking forward to photographing their wedding in August.

Jo and Paul {Engagement Shoot in Regents Park}

After an awful lot of rain through April, we weren’t sure what to expect before Jo and Paul’s engagement shoot on Saturday, and I optimistically reassured Jo on the phone that it would be fine, and on the day it was more than fine, it was a glorious day for a walk in a London park, and Regents Park is a pretty good park for a pre wedding shoot. The daisies were out in full bloom and I had such good fun with Jo and Paul who were game for all sorts of poses I threw at them! My favourite shots are of Jo with a daisy chain round her head, so cute! I can’t wait for the wedding in September. They are a lovely couple and such fun to work with. Rebekah and David {Woodland Engagement shoot}

This morning, we were lucky enough to have a rare break in this dismal rain, and the sun came out for Rebekah and David’s relaxed engagement shoot in Melton Mowbray. It was such a lovely day, and really nice to spend some time stomping around the countryside near where the couple live. They brought their dog Alfie along for the walk too, and I have never seen such a bouncy dog. He was so excited, and I think he knew it was his time to shine, as he was an absolute pro in front of my camera! The woodland near their home is beautiful, and the views just gorgeous. It was so nice to get out into the countryside for the day, and I was lucky enough to be presented with two of the most romantic settings for my shoot… Bluebells, and a gorgeous field of rapeseed flowers. I’ve always wanted to get right in amongst those yellow flowers and take photographs, and lucky for me, my obliging couple didn’t mind a bit getting covered in yellow pollen for the sake of some bright yellow photos (and my personal whim!) I’m really looking forward to Rebekah and David’s wedding in October. They are such a lovely couple to work with, and Alfie… Well, he just stole the show! Take a look at some happy pictures below:

Heather’s Hen Night

I’ve never been asked to photograph a hen night before. But it turned out to be really fun! Heather’s sister and sister-in-law approached me in secret, asking if I would come along and photograph the whole day for Heather. Once they told me what they had planned for Heather’s secret hen day I couldn’t resist. I first met Heather at the Photography Farm run by Lisa Devlin. Heather and her fiance (now husband!) Rob braved the farm back in October to be faced with a bunch of budding wedding photographers practicing their craft. You can see pictures of Heather and Rob from my shoot at the farm here. I subsequently asked Lisa if I could accompany her to shoot their wedding in April, and she agreed to have me assist her as second shooter. It was a brilliant wedding, and I can’t wait to blog the photos I took of their beautiful day soon. Lisa is one of my favourite wedding photographers. I love her vintage style, and it was great working with her. It was also brilliant to spend some time with Heather and her friends on her hen night (or I should say day, as they packed loads in!) They were all lovely and although I’m sure they felt slightly unnerved having a photographer snapping away, I think they all very soon got used to being papped, and hopefully felt like celebs! By the end of the hair and makeup session by the girls from Lekeux Events, they certainly looked like celebs. There was a story session by the beautiful and captivating Rachel Rose Reid followed by a very funny game of Mr and Mrs. Heather’s sister Steph had recorded Rob’s answers to some Mr and Mrs questions, which after slight technical difficulties with the projector, was played on a laptop. After that the girls all retired to their rooms at the lovely Rookery Hotel and got into their 50s/60s style glad rags for a RocknRoll dancing class. This was so much fun, and I even had a little go myself. We then went for cocktails at Lounge Lover, at which point I left them to get on with their evening of dinner at Beach Blanket and a night of vintage style clubbing at Stumblin Slims (totally up my street! I wish I had joined them, but I had arranged to meet a friend for a drink by that point!) All in all a bloody brilliant send off to Heather’s singledom, and well done to Steph and Api for organising such a lovely day! Take a look at some of my pictures below…

Gretl and Ian {Wedding at Woodborough Hall}

It was so nice to photograph a wedding at a venue that is literally a 10 minute drive from my doorstep! Woodborough Hall is a lovely venue filled with tranquility and charm. It has been beautifully restored to its former glory, with the building and estate dating back to 1660. Steeped in history, the surrounding peaceful countryside makes an idyllic setting for a wedding, and Gretl and Ian’s suited their venue perfectly. Astonishingly, the couple planned it all in only 12 weeks. They did a fantastic job resulting in a lovely day full of beautiful moments throughout. The couple have three children under 8, who were very much involved in the wedding. The rooms where Gretl got ready in the morning are stunning and provided the loveliest setting for photographs (the light was an absolute dream) The weather just about held off, with a few scattered showers, and I managed to drag the guests outside for one of my most favourite confetti shots to date. Gretl’s dress was Benjamin Roberts, her makeup was professionally done by the lovely Sarah J Gamble, music was provided by Vanessa Hastings. And my favourite bit I think were Gretl’s something old – her shoes. A fantastic find, and I couldn’t stop photographing them!

Gretl and Ian – Woodborough Hall {Sneak Preview}

I spent Saturday taking pictures at Gretl and Ian’s lovely wedding at Woodborough Hall. It was a lovely day, and I coudln’t wait to start editing my pictures, so I thought I would show a sneak peek before I post the whole wedding (well not the whole thing. I took LOADS of pictures!!) Amy and Craig {Engagement Shoot at Hodsock Priory}

Amy and Craig are such a lovely couple and we had such a great time on their engagement shoot at their wedding venue Hodsock Priory. I had not been to the venue before and it really is a lovely place to take photographs. In fact we got very carried away and spent about 3 hours wandering around all the grounds taking pictures. The weather was lovely too and I am delighted with the pictures. I’m really looking forward to the wedding, which I am photographing in exactly a year today, so it seems fitting to reveal these photographs where the countdown can begin.

Laurie and Alexis {Wedding at Clearwell Castle}

The wedding of Laurie and Alexis. This post is a bit different as I was attending the wedding as a guest and not the official photographer. However, although I was not there in an official capacity, I was still able to do what I absolutely love to do best, and that is capture beautiful moments on my camera. So, I wasn’t responsible for group shots of bride and groom shots. However, as it was my cousin getting married, this post represents my take on what was a lovely wedding day. A wedding at a castle in the snow. It doesn’t get more fairy-tale than that! Check out my photos below.

Rock the Frock {Natasha, Preston Bagot}

Another Rock the Frock Shoot. This one was with Natasha and her horses. Had a great time (although I am slightly allergic to the equine variety of species) The horses and Natasha were beautiful and it was so much fun. As an actress, Natasha was naturally vivacious, and certainly came to life with her horses in front of the camera. An absolute joy to photograph.
