As a Nottingham wedding photographer, it was such a pleasure to return for more Langar Hall wedding photography to capture Amy and Laurence’s beautiful summer wedding. Their day was full of laughter, sunshine, Aperol Spritz and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes weddings so enjoyable to photograph.
This was also the day England were playing Ukraine in the Euros quarter-final, so alongside the wedding celebrations there was another event taking place that many of the guests were very invested in! Somehow Amy and Laurence managed to combine an elegant Langar Hall country house wedding with a football viewing party and make it work perfectly.
Why I Love Being a Langar Hall Wedding Photographer
Langar Hall is one of those venues that feels completely different from any other wedding venue in Nottinghamshire.
Rather than feeling like a traditional wedding venue, it feels like being invited to celebrate in an elegant family home. There is a warmth and intimacy to the place that immediately puts couples and guests at ease.
The venue itself sits quietly in the Nottinghamshire countryside near the Vale of Belvoir and offers a wonderful sense of seclusion without feeling remote. It is peaceful, relaxed and full of character.
For couples planning a smaller wedding or an intimate celebration, it really is one of Nottinghamshire’s hidden gems.
The Distinctive Terracotta Exterior
One of my favourite features as a Langar Hall wedding photographer is the venue’s distinctive terracotta facade.
On sunny summer days it genuinely feels more Tuscany than Nottinghamshire. The warm orange tones of the building create a wonderfully unique backdrop for confetti photographs, family group shots and couple portraits.
Amy and Laurence had originally planned to marry in Italy before circumstances forced them to rethink their plans, so there was something rather fitting about the venue’s Mediterranean feel.
Standing outside the front of the house with guests enjoying drinks in the sunshine, it was easy to see why they fell in love with the venue. The colours photograph beautifully and bring a warmth and richness to wedding images that you simply do not get at many country house venues.
Langar Hall – A Venue Made for Food Lovers
If food is high on your priority list when planning your wedding, Langar Hall deserves to be high on your shortlist too.
The venue has built its reputation around exceptional dining and it is something guests remember long after the day itself is over.
There is always a lovely atmosphere around the wedding breakfast here. Guests genuinely look forward to the meal and there is a sense that everyone is settling in to enjoy a fantastic evening together rather than simply moving through the traditional wedding timeline.
Good food has a way of bringing people together and Langar Hall does this incredibly well.
Beautiful Rooms for Morning Preparations
One of the things I particularly appreciate as a Langar Hall wedding photographer is how lovely the rooms are for getting ready photographs.
The hotel bedrooms are full of character and natural light, with large windows that create beautiful soft illumination for bridal preparations and portraits.
As a photographer who loves natural light and relaxed moments, venues like Langar Hall make my job very easy. There is plenty of space to capture all those little moments during the morning preparations without ever feeling cramped or rushed.
The rooms feel elegant without being overly formal, which perfectly suits the atmosphere of the venue as a whole.
Summer Weddings by a Langar Hall Wedding Photographer
Whilst Langar Hall photographs beautifully all year round, there is something particularly lovely about summer weddings here.
Guests naturally spill out into the gardens with drinks in hand while conversations continue long into the evening. The relaxed flow between the house and the outdoor spaces gives the entire day a wonderful sense of ease.
Amy and Laurence’s guests fully embraced this atmosphere.
There were plenty of Aperol Spritz being enjoyed throughout the day and the drinks reception felt more like a garden party than a formal wedding schedule. The result was exactly the sort of relaxed environment that allows natural moments to happen and genuine photographs to unfold.
As documentary moments go, guests enjoying cocktails in the sunshine is always a good place to start.
When Football Interrupted the Wedding Day
One of the things I love most about weddings is that every single one is different.
For Amy and Laurence, the Euros quarter-final became an unexpected supporting character in their wedding story.
As kick-off approached there was a temporary pause in proceedings as guests gathered around the big screen to watch England take on Ukraine. The first dance was pushed back slightly and suddenly this elegant country house wedding developed the atmosphere of a very sophisticated sports bar.
The wonderful thing was that it never felt stressful or disruptive.
The guests who were invested in the football were able to enjoy the match together while everyone else relaxed in the gardens, continued chatting or enjoyed another drink in the sunshine.
Weddings work best when couples embrace what is happening around them rather than fighting against it and Amy and Laurence did exactly that.
One of My Favourite Moments of the Day
Oddly enough, my favourite part of the entire wedding happened whilst the football was on.
Whilst many of the guests were focused on the match, I found myself sitting with Amy’s grandmother Clarice chatting for almost an hour.
As much as I love photographing weddings, I also love the conversations that happen in between the photographs.
Grandparents in particular always have the best stories.
There is something very special about hearing their memories, their experiences and their perspective on the day unfolding around them. Weddings bring generations together in a way that very few other occasions do and sometimes the quieter moments become the ones you remember most.
Of course, I still managed to capture plenty of animated football fan photographs too.
The contrast between cheering supporters inside and Amy quietly enjoying the sunshine outside in the gardens felt wonderfully reflective of the day itself — relaxed, fun and completely true to who they were as a couple.
A Wedding That Felt Like One Big Celebration to this Langar Hall wedding photographer
More than anything else, Amy and Laurence’s wedding simply felt like a huge celebration.
There was no pressure, no unnecessary formality and no sense of anyone rushing from one part of the day to the next.
Guests laughed, drank Aperol Spritz, watched football, enjoyed fantastic food and celebrated with two people they clearly adored.
Those are often the weddings that stay with you the longest.
Langar Hall provided the perfect setting for it all. The elegance of the house combined beautifully with the relaxed atmosphere Amy and Laurence created, resulting in a day that felt sophisticated without ever feeling stuffy.
I suspect their original Italian wedding plans would have been wonderful.
But looking around that evening at guests enjoying themselves in the gardens of Langar Hall, it was hard to imagine a better setting for their day.
