A garden wedding at home
Katy and Euan both have successful and busy careers in London. But they knew they wanted to get married in Katy’s home town of Newark in Katy’s garden. So Katy’s amazing mum took over the entire wedding planning process, and did such a fantastic job of creating a perfect garden wedding at home for 200 guests. I do love photographing home-spun weddings. There is something so personal about a wedding that takes place in the family home. Luckily the house and garden where Katy grew up was extensive enough for a big marquee and the perfect spot for photos, backing straight out onto wheat fields.
Flowers
It was actually the florist, Mrs Umbels who recommended me to Katy’s mum. I absolutely adore Mrs Umbels’ work and so was delighted to be photographing a wedding with so many flowers. There was a gorgeous flower archway leading from the garden to the marquee at the bottom of the garden. The big marquee looked absolutely splendid with huge arrangements on every table. And flowers adorning the cake too. It looked absolutely beautiful. Please take a look at the slide show at the bottom of the post for more images of this gorgeous garden wedding at home!
36 Photos
As ever, I am limiting my blog post to 36 images. Like a roll of film. With digital photography, it is easy to take so many pictures compared to the days of film, where each photo had to be carefully considered. I am attempting to apply that discipline to the curating of my work in my blog posts; picking the 36 photos that I think tell the story of the day. Each photo is selected because it conveys a certain feeling or emotion. Or memory that I think makes the day so special.
Books
Katy is a fellow lover of good literature, and I was delighted to see some of my favourite book titles as the table names. She had also bought a new copy of each of her favourite books, from childhood favourites like hairy MacLairy to some modern masterpieces, like one of my all time favourites A Fine Balance. The books were accompanied with pens for the guests to write their messages to Katy and Euan in the books. I thought this was a lovely idea and a great way to remember all the people that were at the wedding.
The Church
It would be amiss of me not to mention the beautiful local church St Mary’s in Newark, where Katy and Euan tied the knot. It was of cathedral proportions in size and absolutely stunning outside and in! I enjoyed our little stroll around the church after the ceremony for a few shots of Katy and Euan on their own.
