Weddings in the city of Nottingham

The Council House in the centre of Nottingham is a great spot for a city wedding. The iconic building is situated centrally in the Market Square surrounded by beautiful Nottingham architecture, with the beautiful Watson Fothergill buildings surrounding the square, and the beautiful central 200 feet high dome of the Council house dominating the skyline and presiding grandly over the old market square.

As a wedding photographer in Nottingham, I have photographed many weddings at the Council house. The interior is beautiful too, with the domed ceiling and several gorgeous rooms to choose from to get married, whether you are after something more intimate or a larger grander wedding celebration.

Wedding photos around the city of Nottingham

The lovely thing about getting married at the Nottingham Council House or another centrally located venue, such as The Cosy Club or The Malt Cross, is being able to have photos strolling around the city. As well as the lovely venues in the heart of Nottingham, sometimes getting photos around some of the lovely areas in Nottingham such as the Lacemarket or photos outside of the famous Nottingham Contemporary are a real bonus. Only a stone’s throw from some of these centrally located venues, the contemporary is a great backdrop for some fun wedding portraits.

Whether it might be the bridal bouquet, the table decor or any of the other little details you have painstakingly put into your wedding. I will photograph all of this creatively and beautifully. As well as this, the little tender moments that are often found in the details will be observed and photographed. As an experienced Nottingham wedding photographer with hundreds of weddings captured with my camera over my 14 years in the industry. I have a keen eye for the detail. And often this is where the beauty lies.

Planning your day:

When it comes to planning your wedding day timeline and guest list, try not to get overwhelmed by every little detail. From a photographer’s perspective, the best wedding days are the ones where couples stay present, relaxed, and focused on what truly matters — celebrating with the people they love. Build a timeline that allows breathing room throughout the day, especially during the morning preparations, travel, and couple portraits. A little extra time can make a huge difference in keeping the day calm and enjoyable. The same goes for your guest list — don’t feel pressured to invite everyone. Surround yourselves with the people who genuinely support and celebrate your relationship. The small stuff won’t be what you remember years from now. The laughter, emotion, hugs, happy tears, and moments shared with your favourite people are what make your wedding photographs meaningful.

Worried about having your photos taken?

If you’re worried about having your photo taken, you’re definitely not alone — most couples tell me the exact same thing before their wedding day. My approach to photography is very relaxed and natural, with no awkward posing or forced smiles. I’ll guide you gently when needed, but the focus is always on capturing genuine moments and real connection. Throughout the day, I usually keep couple portraits short and easy-going, often splitting them into two quick sessions of no more than 10 minutes each. One is typically earlier in the day, while the second takes advantage of that beautiful evening light for a few relaxed, romantic photographs without taking you away from your guests for long. The experience should never feel stressful or staged — in fact, most couples end up saying they actually enjoyed it far more than they expected.
